PURPOSE
This is a key position within the Black Butte Copper Project in order to advance the property to production. Reporting to the Project Manager, Black Butte Copper, the Environmental Manager will be responsible for overall coordination and direction of all Environmental activities, including ensuring regulatory compliance, developing site environmental protection programs, conducting environmental monitoring programs and liaising with the government agencies and community groups. This position is also responsible for all Public Relations for the Black Butte Copper Project.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and direction to the consultants involved in aspects of the permitting process.
- Establish budget and schedule to meet permitting timelines.
- Liaise with government agencies to ensure the permitting process is efficient and effective.
- Provide leadership and environmental support / advice to ensure all construction activities are adequately addressing immediate and long-term environmental performance goals.
- Ensure all government reports are submitted in a timely manner.
- Ensure environmental regulatory compliance and that environmental monitoring programs, including surface and ground water, dust fall, acid rock generation, soils and other programs.
- Develop, in cooperation with consultants, various environmental protection programs, including sediment control, waste and hazardous waste management, water quality, fuel handling and storage, wildlife protection and the protection of culturally significant sites.
- Develop and institute a comprehensive public relations program.
- Liaise with local community groups regarding environmental protection programs and environmental quality as required.
- Develop emergency/spill response plan and train project personnel and contractors on appropriate spill response procedure.
- Prepare environmental reports and presentations for project management and government agencies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- University Degree in either Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or a related degree
- Fifteen years of related experience, preferably in mining, with Superintendent experience.
- Permitting experience would be an asset.
